Combi - Heating Comes on When Tap is run?

by SteveK » Sun Jun 03, 2007 10:14 am

Boiler: Alpha Ocean eco240

Problem:

When a tap/shower is turned on the Central Heating comes on RED HOT. Even though all the central heating controls indicate that the CH is not on. When the tap/shower is off the CH goes off.

ie. No light is on (only water), manual switch (inside timer) is set to '0' or 'auto'.

The CH is supposed to turn off when the any water is run, but i get normal temperature water and red hot heating

Any ideas anyone, i have never had a problem with this boiler since installation in 1996. Please do not diss this boiler as many engineers do not like them.

heating comes on when hot water tap on ? if so there's a problem with the diverter valve, may be the diaphragm or dirt on the valve seating. Heating flow will heat up a little bit when hot water tap turned off, this is just getting rid of the excess heat left in the boiler.

Thanks, Managed to get a heating Engineer (specialist in Alpha). He 'Re-sealed' the valve and everything is back to normal.

Cheers
