DP FCU used as SP ok?

by van » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:47 pm

Hi all. Wondered if anyone knowledgeable re: Wiring Regs could advise.

Had an electrician wire a double socket & lights out in the garden a little while back. Got a certificate & all have worked fine, no complaints.
However, due to an accident, one of the 2 FCU`s feeding it from the dining room is now cracked. As i`m pretty competent with basic electrics & it`s a straight swap i bought a replacement DP FCU & after isolating the ring circuit feeding it, i`ve dismantled it.
I was puzzled to find only one core (the phase) connected to what is a double pole switch.

Basically i`m an inquisitive fellow & wondered if this is permissable / bad practice / ok?

I`ll happily give all the details of the new circuit if it helps

Thanks in advance for any clarification
