Bricking up old chimney brest All manner of questions and solutions to problems and issues surrounding the subject of brickwork, blockwork and stonework

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of renovating my house and I have a chimney brest that isn't used any more.

I have been told that it needs to have an air vent in the chimney brest after bricking it up, is this correct?

To me it seems pointless to let cold air in and warm air out, does anyone know any different?

If you do not ventilate the chimney it will give you damp problems unless you take it down below roof level.
