Hi all

i have a poblem with the neteral switch on my fuse box that keeps tripping out and not the brakers. it does this a ramden times day and night and there is no basic comondenominator as to why it goes off when we switch lights on its ok then the next time it trips out how do i go about finding either the fault or testing to find it

there's no such thing as a neutral switch, do you mean your RCD?

There isnt a neutral switch on a fusebox/consumer unit. Think you mean the RCD.
The fault could be cumulative, a small fault on several circuits which individually would be tolerated by the RCD,but if all circuits are on, via timeclocks etc, the overall fault level is too much for the RCD to bear, so it trips.
Suggest you call a leccie. I think this is too much for a DIYer to cope with, without specialist testing equipment.

Likely to be earth leakage fault on RCD, this could be brought about by faulty equipment, fault on circuit, moisture in cables, build up of leakage because of a lot of equipment running at same time or the RCD may be faulty, so as all ready mentioned an Electrician will need to test circuits and RCD.
You could try narrow down the cause be assessing what equipment is on when the RCD trips and turning them on/off to see if it happens only when a certain circuit or appliance is being used or if it's happens when a number of appliances are on at the same time.
