Drilling into the wall? General problems, solutions, information and advice on fixing to walls of all kinds

Hello, I'm new here, and new to DIY, and need some help, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this? :?:
But, the problem is, drilling into walls, mainly when I'm using a ladder.
I can drill in so far into the wall, but then I just can't go any further.
I am uneducated in this department, and only 16, so I'm blaming those two for my failure. :roll:
It would be nice if I could get some help, because it's pretty embarrassing, as I'm the only person in the house able to, and I can't.
Also, I think its just ordinary brick walls, either that or it has some kind of steel sheet half way in? I'm clueless :( :?

Are you using a masonry bit in your hammer drill and are you using your hammer drill on hammer?

Is it possbile that the part of the wall you are getting into is just the plaster? Then you get the bricks and without using the proper bits and the drill properly you aren't getting any further?

The problem when using a ladder is because of the way you have to stand, you can't put your weight behind the drill so it is always more difficult.

As Rosebery says are you using a proper masonry drill like this?

Even if you are, I would suggest it is blunt! Probably out of a cheap grotty set?

I drill walls every day, and I can say a hammer action is not absolutely necessary. What is important is the quality and sharpness of the drill.

I'm not to sure if it is the correct bit, if it is, it probably is blunt and cheap.
I will try and get a new, correct drill bit, thanks for the advice.

see if you can lend a sds drill off someone , these require no force to use just to take up the slack and hold it steady , well done for trying , you dont learn without trying
