Our house is ten years old. We recently noticed that one of the first floor bedrooms has a dip in the floor. After lifting the carpet it appears the dip centres around one joist. The chipwood is nailed down and I am having trouble removing the nails to enable me to investigate further.

Can anyone help?

You have little chice but to cut a section of chipboard out IMHO.

The chipboard flooring will probably be in board sizes 2400x600x18mm thick. Using a hand held circular saw, set the blade to 18mm deep, cut along the joins (2 ends 600 wide and one down the length 2400. Then use a lever lift the board with care not to damage any other boards, placing a length of timber under the lever should help. The board can then be replace quite easily making sure the ends are supported by fastening timbers to the underside of the boards to support the one you have lifted.
