can I use spotlights in a ceiling with a concrete roof...

by j4cse » Sun Jul 19, 2009 5:45 pm

I am putting up a new plasterboard ceiling which has battens on a concrete roof. Would it be better to use 12v spots for the main lighting instead of the 240 due to the lower heat generated and the fact that I will not have any access from above to the lights with it having a concrete roof, or would it be easier to use 240 with not having to have a transformer to conceal, though I only have about 60mm clearance so this may limit my options with the 240v...?
Many Thanks

hi, very little difference in heat since watts = heat irrespective of voltage!
as you say transformer will just be an added problem, stick with mains light

spotlights

cheers, yeah, if I am able to find some mains lights that will fit into the roof space as only about 60mm clearance. with 12v spots they seem to require much less space, its a low ceiling anyway so lowering it wont really be an option.Do u know if there are mains spotlights that are able to fit in ?.

60mm is probably the wrong side of cutting it fine even on 12v, they need about 90

Spotlights or down lights?
What is the roof above ie garage or a living area?
Can you put in a false ceiling?
