Which type of primer?

by jlc » Wed Aug 12, 2009 7:01 pm

Quick question, if I am painting some wood and using a water-based paint do I have to use a water-based primer or is a solvent-based one OK? I have some solvent based Primer & Undercoat which I was hoping to use...

Thanks
John

Hi John, You can use whichever type of primer you want. Just make sure that one is completely dry before putting on the next coat of paint if it's not the same type, ie oil or waterbased. Oil and water based paints do not mix but that is only when they are wet. Good luck.
