I am about to build a brick wall 6' high x 4' wide. 2 bricks deep
The wall does not support any weight.

what depth of base should I lay for this wall?

The base for a wall must take into account the soil type and the walls exposure. You do not want the wall falling over and killing someone.
The base should be at least 18 inches wide and of a thickness and depth to ensure it is safe to live with.
