Over 1yr ago we noticed in the back bedroom on the outside wall there was large black mould patches, which we discovered was caused by a leaking roof. The insurers gave the go ahead for the internal works to be done & we had to pay for the roof repairs.
We found a company in the yellow pages that specialised in flood damage. The contractor came out & took off the old damaged plaster & installed 2 fans & 2 dehumidifiers. It took 4 months for him to say it was dry & proceeded with putting new plaster on & decorated within 1 wk of it being passed as 'dry'.
Less than a week later we noticed that through the wallpaper & paint we could see where that water had originally come through, but the contractor reassured us that all work was guaranteed & it would dry in time...but it is now 15months & still looks terrible. It does not feel wet to touch but looks dark.
We drew a pencil line around the large area & it has gone beyond that mark by about 3 mms & there are salts & black mould patches. The contractor has now ceased trading & will not come back to us, the insurers are saying they can not
do anything because I instructed the contractor & they will not pay out
again as it is now poor workmanship & not due to flood. I have also contacted Concept Solutions who the contractor was trading under & they say its the original contractor who is at fault & so they can not help!!
We do not know what to do - please can someone tell me why the wall looks wet (the roofer has been back out to check for leaks but there are none)...could it be it was not dry in the first place? Is it because they used cheap plaster too soon?
How do we fix this problem? Who do I ring?..... :cry:
Our house is a terraced house that is lower than out neighbours house by about 4 foot - when we had our roof repaired they too had work repaired as water was coming through the cavity wall. They do not have any problems :(
Please please please can someone help :?
