How do you wire 3 gang 2 way light switch?

by Shazzy P » Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:20 pm

What will be coming into the 3 gang light switch I have 3 red wires 2 black wires 1 blue and 1 yellow (as well as the earth wires). My switch has (top) 1 way, com, 1 way, com and 1 way - (bottom) 2 way, 2 way, com and 2 way. How do I wire this up?

I have 2 lights that need to be 2 way and wall lights that need to be 1 way. Can anyone help? I have wired up 1 way switches numerous times, but this has beat me.

Thank you.

Hi Shazzy,
treat as 2 seperate switches, first the wall lights; sort out your wires as there will be 2 lots of R/B's (ignore the R/Y/Bu 3 core for now).
by connecting each pair in turn together find out which ones work wall lights, put them in one com(Red) & it's L1 opposite end of sw,IE if C at top, then use 1W at bottom of same sw. test wall lights! if working move on to:
other sw. First go to other 2 way sw, for centre light across room, see wiring, note what colour is in Com term, ( prob Y.)
Whatever it is must go in com on your dbl sw.
then the other 2 colours of your 3core go in 1W & 2W terms of 2nd sw,
also in 1W & 2W go the remaining R & B making 2 in each 1W / 2W terms
try the above & come back, regards SPARX
