I have some internal walls which has some patchy breakdown of the damp course It seems to be coming from the inside of the wall rather than the outside where the dampcourse seems intact. I think it is ground damp and not from any other source.

At this moment it is not possible at this stage to remove, cut back to the brickwork, and insert damp protection. I wondered if I could simply drill through the skirting board ( which is set away from the wall and is not effected) and inject some silicone into the wall? Would this be able to hold back the damp? These are solid brick walls.[/url]

Hi, what makes you think that this is rising damp? True rising damp is rare, what is much more common is condensation, rain penetration or drainage defects. Its difficult to see from your picture but it appears that the damp patch is on the window reveal which may well indicate condensation issues- the window reveal may be acting as a cold bridge and warm moist internal air is condensing at that point. There is quite a lot of guidance of these sort of damp issues online. If you were to need a damp proof injection check with a RICS building surveyor- don't just take the case of a so called specialist who has a vested interest in selling you the injected dpc.

Without being able to see the issue its impossible to say what is happening for definite. If you can post some more internal and external photos I might be able give you an indication.

Dear Charlie:
Yes, I understand what you mean, although I do not think it is condensation. We had a leak on the mains for a long time some years ago and althought it was fixed ( it wasn't identified for a long time) there were damp patches in various part of the ground floor to the back of the house - they seemd to be on the same alignment. They have now dried out except these patches.

I guess I was looking for a quick fix until I can do the job properly. I will take your advice on getting it checked but wondered if it is pointless to drill into the wall through the skirtingboards and inject dpc cream?
