Removing a dado rail

by benken » Mon Jun 11, 2007 5:46 pm

Please could somebody help. I am moving in to a property with a dado rail in the lounge which I really don't like. My questions are:

How easy is it to remove a dado rail? What are the best tools to use? Is it simply a case of tearing it off the wall and then filling in any holes? Will it be possible to paint over without the line where the rail once was showing through?

We would rather use the word prising than tearing but essentially, thjats what you do. Get a chisel in behind one end and lever out carefully. There will be some damage but this can be filled and if there is lots of damage take a look at the following link to make good.
