I have Amtico (vinyl PVC) in my bedroom which I would like to paint over. Do you know what sort of paint I could use and whether it needs a special primer?

We have never found a paint which will successfully paint vinyl of any type especially on the floor. The adhesion is poor and foot traffic makes it peel and flake in no time at all making it look very untidy and dirty.
