indirect boiler problems heatin up water

by brett1976 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 6:51 pm

hi there, im having problems with my tank the hot water isnt heating up well enough after so many hours its hardly warm.
ive had the thermostat checked by an elctrician it seems to be workin but ive thought maybe i would change the immersion heater but couldnt get the old one of and the tank started to creese around the nut so i stopped .

does this sound like it might be the thermostat problem ? ive set it to 80c there are no reset buttons
there immersion heater is a 18" length.

the tanks only around 30inch high, there are no rads connected to the system as i have storage heaters :(

thanks in advance

If the water is getting warm at all then the immersion element is working just as it should.

This leaves three possibilities why the water may not be getting hot. Firstly, the electrician has made a mistake and the thermostat is not working correctly or secondly, a timer is switching element off too much.

A third possibility is if your hot water pipes run underneath a solid floor it is possible there is a leak draining away the hot water. Check the header tank and make sure it is not filling when all the hot taps are closed.
