RCD tripping no apparent reason

by Blazeboy » Sat Nov 14, 2009 5:39 pm

We have had a long standing problem with our electrics tripping but no particular circuit just the mains switch on the board.
It can go for months without a problem and then trips when we only have a fridge and freezer on. Normally the weather is not a factor it can be hot or dry or wet. Today however, it has been very wet and windy and it has tripped 3 times.
When it tripped today we had the fridge and freezer on and the heating.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,
presume main switch is an RCD which means the problem is an earth leakage fault.
As it is so intermittant the only way to find fault which may be a combination of small leakages is to get the circuits tested with an insulation tester and earth leakage clamp meter.
Not the sort of thing anyone but a leckie would have so afraid it's down to professional to check out,
