No / Intermittent Hot Water from Taps but Heating/Shower OK All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hi,

We have a gas fired boiler which drives our central heating - this all seems to be working absolutely fine. We also have an electric immersion tank that heats our hot water, but although our mixer shower is working OK, there is little or no hot water coming from any of our taps (2 in the bathroom, 1 in the kitchen). The pipes coming out of the tank at the top are hot, and the one that feeds the shower is hot all the way there, but by the time the other two feeds (which I assume go to the bathroom and kitchen respectively) get into the loft, they are cold.

We have tried the 'airlock fix' quoted by many on here by connecting hose to the bath taps and running cold water into the hot tap quite a few times now and it seems to have minimally improved the flow but only from nothing to the tiniest trickle.

Any suggestions for what we could try next (or what might be wrong) would be much appreciated!

The "airlock fix" only works when you put mains pressure into the hot taps. If you have a cold water storage tank in your roofspace and that is feeding the cold taps in the bathroom there will be insufficient pressure to blow the air out if you are just connecting the hose from tap to tap.

The cold tap in your kitchen, however, should be mains fed and so a tap to tap connection should work.
