Hi, I have a 1930's house and in the process of redecorating the spare room. I am repairing some large holes (back to the brick work) initially with browning but one of the areas I have plastered has developed lots of cracks, like crazy paving. I did a short plastering course a few years ago but haven't really done much since and I'm sure the cracks mean something has gone wrong and I need to do it again, but I don't know why it has cracked like this.
Can anyone tell me? I don't want to make the same mistake again. Thanks.

Substrate too absorbent and has drawn the water out of the plaster before it got a chance. Did you treat with PVA first?

other possible causes are that the browning was applied too thick and/or it has dried out too quickly.
