Hi,
We own a reasonably sized bungalow with a large amount of land behind it. About 20 years ago we obtained permission for and constructed a two storey outbuilding which was used as a games room/kids playroom.
About 12 months ago my elderly parents moved in and I wrote to the council asking what the procedure would be to convert the outbuilding into a "granny flat" for them.
I got a letter back basically saying no planning permission would be requried for accomodation by an "elderly person" as they would consider this a purpose "incidental to the enjoyment of the main dwelling house"
So we did the work and they moved in. However now were considering if a better option would be if they lived in the bungalow (no stairs) and we moved into the outbuilding.
Would this be allowed without planning permission bearing in mind they specifically mentioned an elderly person in the letter. Theres no difference, same amount of people etc.
I've searched the internet for the last couple of hours but only found conflicting information. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
