No hot water and one radiator with no hot water

by caramascara » Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:20 pm

Hi,
I recently had a burst pipe in the landing and now have a large hole where the plumber went in to fix it.
The next day none of the down stairs radiators worked so I bled them.
Further to bleeding them my mate told me that I needed to fill up the boiler again - as I am the first to admit I shouldn't be allowed near anything practical - I went found some taps near the hot water tank and turned them off. I subsequently found out that my friend didn't know what he was talking about and I had just switched the in and out to the water supply off. I therefore turned them back on. I now have no hot water to the taps in the bathroom or kitchen, although the shower is fine (thank goodness). I looked and thought I might have caused an airlock, so following advice on this site I covered the mixer tap downstairs and attempted to flush cold water through the hot water system. This did not work and I now have no hot water and the radiator in the porch does not work either now.
Please help this incompetent female who has already spent a fortune on a plumber!
Thanks
Cara

caramascara,
Unless you have another friend who who knows what they are doing and can come and give you some practical help, your best option is to get in touch with the original plumber and tell him the rads stopped working after his intervention.
