the mcb for my downstairs sockets trips off & also trips the rcd off. i switched off all sockets but everytime i switch the mcd back on it trips off the rcd.is this an earth problem & how would i trace it?

UN PLUG ALL CURRENT USING EQUIPMENT FROM THE DOWNSTAIRS RING MAIN / SOCKETS , IF RCD STILL TRIPS WHEN POWER IS ATTEMPTED TO BE RESTORED BY TURNING ON YOUR MCB
FOR THE SOCKETS THEN A FAULT CONDITION EXISTS , WHICH POSSIBLY
BE EARTH RELATED.
YOU WOULD HAVE TO GET EXPERT HELP IN , IDEALLY A REGISTERED
ELECTRCIAN TO PERFORM A SERIES OF TESTS ON THE RING MAIN CIRCUIT TO SEE IF A FAULT WAS PRESENT.
THE RCD IS PROTECTING THE CIRCUIT PRESENTLY BY TRIPPING , SO
NEEDS LOOKING AT BY A REGISTERED ELECTRICIAN

FIRST REPILIED TO YOUR PROBLEM FRI 15 JUNE 6.56 PM
I HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM A CALL TO A NEIBOURING
HOUSE. WHERE I LIVE SAME PROBLEM AS YOURS DOWNSTAIRS SOCKETS, THIS HOUSE IS A TT SYSTEM ( EARTH ROD )
EVERTHING WAS UNPLUGGED AS WAS THOUGHT , AND WHEN MCB
CLOSED AT MAIN BOARD , R.C.D. TRIPPED AS WELL.
UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY MYSLEF I FOUND A DAMAGED
NIGHT LIGHT PLUGGED INTO ONE OF THE FORGOTTEN SOCKETS BEHIND
MICROWAVE. UNPLUGED IT. FAULT CLEARED, MCB HELD AND R.C.D
HELD.
PERFORMED FULL SET OF TESTS ON RING MAIN, CONTINUITY , INSULATION , EARTHLOOP IMPEADANCE AND, TESTED OPERATION OF
R.C.D . ALL TESTS WERE SATIFACTORY TO REGS BS7671
JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET U KNOW, HOW R U GETTING ON WITH YOUR
PROBLEM OR HAVE U CALLED IN A REGISTERED SPARKY TO CHECK
THINGS OVER. ( PROBALY BEST )
