I have fitted a compression wall plate with the water supply coming in in a horizontal pipe. When I tighten up the 1/2" bib tap it finishes upside down! How can I get the tap to be in the correct vertical position?

Wrap more ptfe tape round the threads and don't screw the tap right home.

First, fit the tap to the female connection on the wall plate, ensure water tightness,

put the pipe through the hole in the wall,

turn the tap upright,

mark the three screw holes,

on the inside mark the wall plate pipe and the supply pipe for a 15mm 90º solder or compression fitting,

remove the fitting,

drill the three holes, fit wall plugs

refit the tap & wall plate/pipe, line up the holes,

fit three screws & tighten,

join the pipe on the inside of the wall to the supply pipe,

job done

or move to OZ

that will cure it skids but a lot of work!

i think stoneyboy's method is a bit easier, lots of ptfe. this is a very common problem when installing certain types of garden taps.
