Woodburner water jacket All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hi Folks,

Happy New Year to all, I am fixing in a woodburner that has a hot water jacket built in. I am not connecting this in to the CH or HW systems. I have been told to fill it with sand and blank off, but the thing is heavy enough as it is without the extra weight.

My question is, do I really need to do anything, maybe just leave the blanking nuts only finger tight so any excess heat pressure in the empty water void can just harmlessly escape.

Any advice or suggestions would be welcome

I have never heard of using sand in this way, but as I am not an expert in this field, I can't be exactly sure.

One thing that does stand out a mile is blanking off. This is generally a no no! If the sand you put in is moist. BANG!

Even finger tight is not good as it may rust up and seal over a period of time.

Contact the manufacturer directly and ask for their recommendation.
