I need to fit a stopcock into an existing hot water pipe from the cylinder so I can cut off the supply when changing tap washers in the bathroom washbasin.
I believe it's possible to freeze the pipes using an aerosol spray to save draining the tank but not sure how long this treatment would last while the new stopcock was fitted.
Any tips on materials or similar advice welcomed.

There's really no need, turn off the cold water supply and open the hot tap - you wont drain the whole cylinder as the draw off is from the top, you'll only drain enough for the tank in the loft to empty.

Change washer, turn on cold water supply - job done.

Or do as above and fit isolation valve - if you really want to.
