Inconsistent Cold Water

by StuartK » Thu Mar 18, 2010 12:03 am

Hi, Have a Baxi Mega Flow and had a plumber round to change the top up immersion. Since then we have plenty of hot water and always good pressure which is great but the cold water is now really inconsistent.

In the morning when I turn the shower on the mixer taps in the bath start at a really good rate but then the whole flow drops off to a trickle before coming back again to a reasonable flow...or at least good enough to shower.

The cold water taps in the bathroom and kitchen vary between a reasonable but low pressure flow to very low pressure barely over a trickle..whilst the hot water is always strong. Any advice much appreciated.

If it was ok before - get the plumber back, could be somehthing as simple as he has forgotten to open a valve.

Very unusual if mains fed though - your kitchen will be. The bathroom could be tank fed.

Because the plumber had to drain the tank down to change the immersion when the tank was then refilled it would have regenerated the air pocket at the top of your Megaflow ,this air pocket takes up the expansion in the water as it heats up
Because that air pocket gets compressed by the hot water when you turn on the hot tap you will get a sudden surge that dies off after a while ,you may not have had that before probably because the air pocket had run down there are instructions on the side of the tank on how to recharge it .

The other thing i should have added is there is a filter built into the Megaflow combination valve that may need cleaning
That will also give you poor flow rates if its blocked
