Hello to all. I'd appreciate any advice regarding this query.

I have planning permission for a large single storey room (utility room) to the rear of our house. My question is this: how do I lay strip foundations across the path of an existing wastewater drainage system (which comes from a bathroom). I don't want to reroute the drainage, but how can I lay foundations (deeper than the drainage) in this particular instance?

As I say, any advice would be much appreciated.

You'll probably have to encase the drain in concrete and build in a lintol over the drain. Talk to your Building Inspector when he comes to check the footings.

Many thanks for this. Yes, I think you're right. I've had some conversation with a builder since posting, and he reckons I can route it around the proposed extension, or across it's path, but certainly along the lines you suggest.

An engineer's opinion has also been suggested as we live in very rocky ground (not exactly sure why, though it'll no doubt become clear as things progress).
