building inspectors ?

by katiesdad » Mon May 03, 2010 3:07 pm

The Local Authority Building Inspector is in competition with private individuals and companies.
Ealing Council (London) have quoted me for loft conversion building regs, 10-40m2.
£169.81 for approving plans, and £461.38 for inspections (inc VAT)
Has anyone used the privateers, and how was your experience?, costs?
Any thoughts would be very interesting.

katiesdad,
Your local BI is what it says LOCAL and he/she has no vested interests.

Friends of mine used an approved inspector for their loft conversion. (Recommended by Loft Conversion Company)

Very bad experience only came out once and would not speak to them when she had concerns about the job, quoting "I only speak with the Builder not the owner!".
