changing light fittings

by AndyB » Thu May 20, 2010 8:52 am

I've had a kitchen extension built and had the electrics done by an electrician who put up pendants as temporary lights. Am I ok to change these pendants for the light fittings I want, myself, or is this against the regs! and would it invalidate the certificate the electrician issued me

The Part P regulations allow like for like replacement I would assume it is not like for like so you would need to notify or use an electrician who is member of a scheme.
As to Electrical regulations these are not law but to comply you would in theory need to re-test and enter new figures with Minor works certificate.
The last person to work on a system is responsible for it and yes should some one get injured due to some fault the electrician who did the work could likely get away with anything he did wrong because you worked on it last.
