Alternative to PVA sealant

by xmfclick » Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:49 am

Like many other people, I want to lay a wood floor (engineered board) over a concrete slab. For various reasons, the slab has been screeded, but the work was not done very well and the screed is not perfectly flat. "Self-levelling compound" I hear you cry! All the advice I have seen says you should seal the (screed) with PVA before pouring the self-leveller. However, I am not in the UK and I have not seen PVA for sale here. What alternatives are there? (An old builder here suggested what they call "milk", which turns out to be a thin water/cement mix. Any old UK builders heard of this?)

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi
dont use pve if the floor gets damp it will emulsify and result in bond failure
mix and apply a 1:1 grout coat and screed over it when the grout is tacky
or
apply a coat of SBR bond 503
FEBOND SBR is a styrene-butadiene co-polymer latex specifically designed for use with cementitious mixes and as a reliable water resistant bonding agent.
SBR Bond is a latex based, water resistant bonding agent and admixture for use in areas subject to humidity, dampness and continuous water contact. Improves water resistance of cement mixtures by forming a reinforcing polymer that increases long term durability and flexibility of the mix on renderings and floor screeds.
