Movement of Gas Meter from Internal to External Location

by Peters_Andy » Fri Feb 27, 2009 10:43 pm

The previous position of the gas meter within my property was underneath the stairs. A new external meter has been installed but in order to reconnect the new external meter to the original meter position the pipework has been entered through the external wall and clipped to the skirting board along two internal walls before being connected to the original meter position. Is this a correct method of installation and should the pipe work have some form of mechanical protection rather being clipped to skirting board that may require renewal?

It's all down to persoanal choice really, protection of gas pipes in domestic dwellings is not normally required. If you think you might renew the skirting - ask them to clip it to the wall above.

I wouldn't have a gas pipe routed around my skirting boards. Can you not have the pipe connected directly to boiler/fire and cooker ? would this reduce the pipe run ?

If you have concrete floors the only other option would be to run the gas pipe externally, drill through to the external wall so the pipe goes through to under the floor upstairs, lift a few floor boards etc etc.
