Hi there, I had a problem with condensation in my loft 2 yrs ago and got a slater (friend of the family) to install vents in the roof, now against my better judgement he insisted on fitting 4 at the back of the house as the sun shines on the front LOL! I went with his experience and not what I knew about cross ventilation. Well, last winter the problem returned and I need to get 6 more vents fitted, 3 high up and 3 low at the front, my slater agreed to do this 8 weeks! ago, I've not seen him since and I think its a matter of paying for the vents up front like the last time anyway,
I'm looking for advice on the type to get where they can be got, the four he fitted are of the mushroom type, the slates are on the small side and its quite a steep pitch.

Rather than add even more ventilation, why not stop the condensation?
Stopping condensation is very simple.
You and your family make water vapour that rises through your home into the loft and meeting the cold roof slates condenses.
You can do this several ways.
Stop keeping water vapour in the home by fitting and using extractor fans in the kitchen and bathroom and letting them run after washing and cooking and keeping the bathroom and kitchen doors shut. If you must dry things on radiators do so in the kitchen or bathroom.
Fitting an air tight/almost water vapour tight loft door, sealing all the holes from the home into the loft that the water vapour moves through will greatly reduce the chance of loft condensation.
Sometimes just keeping doors closed will make a difference.
Final point, it is condensation on the loft timbers that can lead to wood rot.
