Horrible smell from previous occupant!

by Jess1485 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 1:21 pm

I have just bought a flat which was previously owned by someone who was unable to look after himself. Although it is a lovely flat, the smell is very bad (probably a mixture of urine, dogs and general dirt and neglect). I have now removed everything from it, but the smell, although much better, is still there. Can anyone suggest anything else I might do to get rid of it?

Thanks. :?:

My house was the same when I bought it, smelt of cigarettes and urine !

I had to completely rip out all the carpets, strip the wallpaper scrub the woodwork to reduce the stench, I also washed all the floors with disinfectant, it took about 3 months before it eventually went.

I had to strip out all the plasterboard walls and floor in the bathroom from where the previous owner had missed the loo, lovely job that was !

luckily we didnt move in for 6 months whilst I was doing it up.
