pipe work into central heating radiators

by R » Fri Jul 23, 2010 9:42 am

hi
I am about to install two new radiators to my central heating system and for convenience and ease it would be desirable to install the flow and return pipe work from the combi boiler into the top and bottom of one side of the radiators involved would this be acceptable or could I encounter any problems.
Thank you for any adive

You cannot connect the flow and return to one end of a radiator. The opposite end would not get hot.

it has on radiators i have come across fitted like that before, where the heat with convects across the top of the rad before cooling and falling to the bottom, although i will admit i have never fitted a rad that way and not sure if special fittings are required

No it'll not work, you can connect flow at the bottom and return at the top but it has to be at opposite ends of the radiator.

Hi,
I feel I have to respond to the much appreciated replies I received from my original post regarding the piping of radiators.
The two said radiators have been piped into one side of each radiator and after refilling the system and bleeding the air vents the radiators work perfectly.
One of the radiators is sited directly under the combi boiler and is a double convector 600mm in width by 700mm in height, the second radiator is sited furthest from the boiler at approximately 20 meters and is also a double convector 500mm in width by 700mm in height, there are a total of six radiators in the system the remaining four are piped to the bottom of each radiator as per I suppose standard fit.
