Central heating pipes banging near expansion pipe

by hinckleyfox » Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:12 pm

Just drained my open system down to fit 3 new towel warmers, refilled and bled all radiators. Boiler and pump start up, then horrendous banging and vibration from area around the vent pipe which goes to header tank, then boiler cuts out. Hot water is coming from vent pipe into header tank. Seems like an airlock? If so how can I get rid of it?

pump is airlocked or faulty, get a large wad of kitchen roll or absorbant paper, not toilet roll, get a large flat bladed screw driver and crack open the large screw head on the front of the pump and bleed the pump. There will appear to have alot of water come out (hence the paper) but keep bleeding and running the pump until it becomes quiet. If that fails, get a engineer
