Lime mortar pointing mix ? All manner of questions and solutions to problems and issues surrounding the subject of brickwork, blockwork and stonework

The first time I did some pointing on my old house , I mixed the Lime into a paste stored it in a airtight container & then run off the surplus water before mixing with sand & cement.
I need to do some more pointing (only a small area about 2 ft square).
Can I mix the Lime powder with sand before adding to cement or will I have to prepare the Lime as I originally did.

You can mix the lime and sand together but should not be using cement.
Don't mix more than you can use in about an hour.
