We are restoring and renovating a 16C farmhouse. The rear back wing used to be a hayloft which has been turned into living accommodation years ago. We'd like to restore the hay loft shutters to two of the windows which means having those windows opening in if the shutter is to be useable rather than just decorative as I'd like it to be. Our builder forgot and ordered all the windows opening out. We could turn these two round but all the bits designed to make rain flow away will be on the wrong side. Nearly all windows on traditional properties in France open in and I'm wondering if we would be better to get the windows made there. We are in the Channel Islands so Brittany is the obvious place to look. Does any one have any experience or advice about this? The walls are very thick so the casement windows will open almost inside the apeture.
