connecting 5.8kw hob

by Geoff1 » Sat Jun 23, 2007 6:34 pm

I have just replaced a free standing cooker with a 7.5kw column oven using the existing 6mm cable and 45amp double pole cooker switch.

I now need to connect the 5.8kw hob which is situated 0.5 metre from the oven but i am not sure of the best way of doing this. I realize i need to have this work checked by an electrician. I would welcome some advice please.

DID A REPLY BUT NOT SURE IF I SENT IT ! TRY AGAIN.
ASSUME U HAVE EXISTING OVEN OF 7.5KW CONNECTED
TO A 6MM2 CABLE.
AND U HAVE A 5.8 KW HOB TO CONNECT UP.
IF U CONNECTED THIS UP TO THE SAME 6MM2 CABLE AND BOTH
APPLIANCES WERE USED AT FULL CAPACITY, ALTHOUGH WE USE
DIVERSCITY . THESE APPLIANCES USED FULLY WOULD OVER LOAD
THE CABLE AND THIS IS BAD PRACTISE. I HAVE SEEN IT DONE.
FOR SAFTEY I WOULD ADVISE THAT A NEW 6MM2 CIRCUIT BE INSTALLED, AND AS THIS IS NOTIFIABLE WORK U WOULD NEED TO GET A SPARKY IN .

Hi Geoff, as you may realise it's not good enough to get your work 'checked ' by an electrician it is illegal to do any electrical work in a kitchen yourself! so get a leckie in & let him work it out for you; it's much cheaper than a fine for breaking bldg. regs,
