Cracks in new decking

by kemski » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:03 pm

Hello

I've just had 25 sqm of decking done over my patio. It's laid on a concrete slab and some slabs using 3x3 posts for the framework. The reason I used 3x3 is my mate runs a fencing company and he supplied it all. Last night I cleaned it all off and I was going to oil it when I got back from work tonight, when I looked at it tonight I've noticed that 7 of the boards have got sort of splits/cracks running down them intermittently some of them are a foot long but only a couple of mill thick and they're not going towards the screws (SPAX).

My mates said he'd swap them no problem but Im a bit worried about it happening again, has this happened to anyone else? Any preventative measures I can take.

Thanks

kemski,
It's wood, when it dries it cracks, you'll never beat it.

There's no way it's meant to crack so bad after a day. Everyone I've spoke to have never heard of it happening before. Thanks for the unhelpful response stoneyboy.
