Fireproof Plasterboard

by Terrinalan » Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:47 am

We're renovating our living room, and the old plaster is very rough so the walls need to be plasterboarded. We want to change from an open fire to a woodburner set just in front of a wall which will have a fire surround and tiled back. Is it ok to use fireproof plasterboard on this wall, or should we use plaster? There will be about 2 inches between the back of the stove and the tiles. Thanks, Terri

hi

you say you must fix the walls with plasterboard ! why plasterboard? using fireboard would be ok for you wood burner but its not the right way to do it. you need to fix with sand and cement, this will ensure a better job all round and if you come to sell thee property the ne,w owners will be ok to change back the fire place if needed. the last time i heard building regs allows plasterboard to be on face only not inside fireplace but things may of changed.

remember fire board was designed to stall flames travelling to beams. so i guess it doest really matter if you use pink or white board.

hope thiss helps.
