by davechidlow » Mon Sep 27, 2010 5:39 pm

Hi, having just put all of our holiday photos on computer, i now need to put them all on to a disc. Having never done this before, i have no idea as to what type of disc to use. The computer is about four years old and is Windows xp, as always any any help or advice would be appreciated

davechidlow,
Depends what type of drive is fitted you may have a CD or DVD drive, determine which you have and then see if it is compatible with +or -R discs.
Probably be easier to use a USB stick.

Dave

Just like Stoneboy says but you also need to know how large the collection of photos are CD's will only hold about 700MB of information and DVD's will hold about 4.7 GB of data, you can get USB sticks in a plethora of sizes.

Right click on the folder your pictures are stored in and select "properties" this will tell you the digital size of the folder and will inform you of how many of what types of disc you need

Also as Stoneboy says the USB stick is the easiet to handle and being solid state it is fairly indistructable unless you put it any where near water or jump up and down on it. CD's / DVD's can be damaged easily(especially by children!!!! - previous experience, long story maybe for another day) Most computers have a USB socket, not all computers have a DVD drive.
