Buying a Loft Ladder Information, help and advice on many architecture, self build and design problems and issues

I'm thinking of buying a loft ladder & having it installed, can anyone offer me any buying advice please as to what I should be looking or looking out for as I've not had one of these before?

I've been looking into this. If you google there are a few suppliers. My considerations included:

1. Does the someone wary of clambering into the loft want to get up there? If so something more substantial may be required.

2. Make sure of storage box size to get opening right.

3. Should I provide another landing up there? necessitating proper stairs (if there's room).

As a result my minimum solution is a spring operated ladder costing £250 - £300. Electric is too expensive for me at 10 times that.

There is a folding wooden ladder available at most stores.
This is attached to a loft trapdoor, the whole thing folds up into the loft.
It fits a floor to floor height of just over nine feet and you cut it to size.

The best value for money that you will find is the 3 section aluminium loft ladder by Lyte Ladders called the Easiloft. It has a maximum load capacity of 150 kg and comes with a handrail, operating pole and a kit to convert the loft hatch to the swing down type. The ladder is very sturdy yet light and best of all it is very simple to fit. You can buy them on Ebay for only £41 or from Pryde & Sons Ltd in Glasgow.

We use Easiloft in our loft and it is sturdy.
