Tiling over quarry tiles and ash?
We have discovered our kitchen floor in our victorian semi is ash, then quarry tiles, then some other layer of black material, a layer of very very old vinyl tiles and then levelling compound and the current lino! Everything is a bit loose and crumbly. We asked our tiler to level a lump and he discovered all of this and said we would need to have the whole floor dug out, the ash removed and a new floor laid. Is this right? Is there another solution? It may cost around £4K to fix (4m x 5m floor area approx).
Can anyone help and suggest a cheaper solution?
