Central Heating not working - first switch on after summer

by ice station zebra » Fri Nov 12, 2010 5:46 pm

I have attempted for the last week to put my central heating on post the summer switch off. No heat from any radiators. The Myson Power Extra box (MP E322) in the airing cupboard is making a buzzing/werring sound. When switched on, both orange indicators light up. Have had no issues with the hot water, or boiler, and no sounds from the Myson Power extra when only the hot water has been on throughout the summer. Unfortunately, cannot get an engineer until 27 Nov, and needless to say house is very cold. Any advice welcome (already got the extra layers and gloves on).

It is possible the valve has seized.

There is a lever on the side that operates the valve manually. If you push it across, the valve should open allowing hot water to the radiators. It is possible to lock the lever open permanently so you can at least get warm. (The hot water may need to be on to make this work.)

Maybe operating the valve will free it off so it will work normally from then onwards.

The Myson Power Extra is a 3 port valve/motorised valve.

The noise is the motor trying to move - there's a slider on the side - slide to man/manual - this'll give you CH and HW but you wont be able to use them individually.

This is only temporary until you get an engineer out.

in future - it's best to put CH on a few times during the summer - as parts can seize up.

Thank you for your help, did not know about manual slide underneath. Heating is now working.
