ceiling fan

by craigwakeman » Mon Jun 25, 2007 9:04 pm

i am attempting to install a ceiling fan in my daughters bedroom,, as i have allready installed 2 of these fans before i thought it would be straight forward, but i was wrong,, the problem i have encounterd involves the 3 red wires one from the switch one from the previous light and one to the next light , i have correctly wired up the earths and the 2 neutrals and the black switch wire , i have connected all 3 red wires into a single connector block as the instructions said, now the fan runs by itself with the switch off and the lights in the next 2 bedrooms do not work but the lights in the hallway and landing work which i presume would be in the circuit before the ceiling fan,, please help as my wife is getting on my back about it now ,, thank you

Hi. C.W.
oops!! If you have indeed got all 3 reds together in spare block & not connected to fan wires then how can fan run?
presume fan also has light built in, if so have you mixed up fan feed with light feed? does light work?
as for other non working lights if 3 reds together then you must have got wrong blk as sw. wire because if correct 2 blks also together other lights must work!
Most fan/lights have perm L to fan with inbuilt pull sw. to give off/on/speeds, & only light controlled by wall sw.
more info please re. wires from fan/light, (Colours for functions)
