Emulsion woes

by tinkir » Sat Nov 20, 2010 4:40 pm

Bought a fifties built house last year and am having problems in all rooms.

It would seem that it only had one original coat of paint on the walls and then just one more by the people before us.

All the walls have cracks which appears to be where the last coat shrunk and cracked the original coat but also pulled it off the plaster in some ares looking like that egg opening in alien !

If I try to repair any nail holes or remove a wooden baton vast amount of paint peels off back to plaster or if I try to paint the walls some areas seem to soak through the old paint and it just falls off?

Any ideas on a product that might help to adhere these previous coats back to the wall or another solution

regards

Ok a bit confusing, The walls have only had 2 coats of paint in 50 years you say????

To solve the cracking i would line the walls give you a new surface and fresh one to paint on.
