Cleaning new uPVC frames

by diysi » Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:19 pm

HI

Can anyone give me some advice on how best to clean stabilising primer off my new uPVC window frames?

I used Glidden Stabilising Primer when I sealed the walls before painting and got a fare few runs and drips over my new uPVC windows. Have cleaned it off the glass ok but cannot shift it off the frames. I've tried brielfy with white spirit but no joy. Someone suggested using petrol but I'm worried it will make it even worse. Looks a mess as it is.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

diysi,
The primer is solvent based and will probably have eaten into the surface of the upvc. Try scraping a small area with a sharp chisel.

Go to a upvc instalation company and ask for frame cleaner(solvent type)
or a plastics supplier will also have some.

I have sometimes used model paint solvent which is available at most model shops and comes in small glass bottles. It may be cheaper than the industrial type solvents.

Good luck!
