New open fire questions

by ddmol » Sun Dec 12, 2010 4:39 pm

Hi guys - really hope someone can help me or point me in the right direction.

The missus and I would love an open fire in the lounge. I have been looking at flue systems, fire hoods, fire baskets etc...

My plan is to brick build a 'chimney breast' in the lounge. In this I anticipated building a base, back and sides for the fire basket lined with clay tiles. Above this I assumed that I would be able install a canopy (hidden from view) that would then terminate into a double skinned twin walled flue system which I could then take up into the loft and out of the roof.

I have looked around on google etc and not seen anything like this.

Am I missing the point - is this not possible??? (seemed reasonable)

We are hoping for a finished product similar in look to an open fire in a small country pub...

any help would really be appreciated..

Dave
