toilet pan connection

i am replacing my toilet the waste is lead the joint from trap to lead waste is filled with some kind of mastic can i do same with new toilet if so what type of mastic?

However, it is better to cut off the lead spigot and connect a proper pan connector straight into the remaining lead. You will get a more reliable and better looking finish.

Before you cut the pipe though, just check the sizes and shape as lead can warp.
