electric lightin problem

by mick-d » Thu Feb 03, 2011 3:21 pm

I had to replace a 40yr old light fitting in my bathroom, when i took the old fitting down, i was left with 2 wires twisted together (live), a single wire, an earth wire (which wasnt connected to anything) a 2 pairs of live wires (red) which were twisted together and capped off, so rather than having bare wires just twisted together in my ceiling, i routed them through a 20amp junction box, the light works fine however my problem is that when you turn the bathroom light on, the light in the adjacent bedroom goes off, individually they are fine but you can't have both on at once, has anybody any ideas?

Neutral and switched live mixed up. Likely both black.
