Hi, first time on here i'm just looking for rough guides.

We are currently being targeted by a group of Hooligans who in the last few day's have smashed my front house window, and my car's rear window with bricks! They tried to do the front window again at the same time as the car window but the clown hit the frame and ran off.

I'm looking to get some work done to improve security for my family but i'm not sure of approx costs (will need to obtain a loan so could do with some rough estimates) Firstly i'd like to increase the height of my front wall (it's not in the best state and could probably do with a rebuild) around 20ft long and 4 feet high, would like to extend this to 5 or 6 feet and some spiked railings on top, would I need planning permission for this?

Also looking at some Aluminium Window shuuters for the front of the house, 6feet across and 5 feet high times 4, rough costs?



Any help would be greatly appreciated at this time.

If your front wall abuts the highway you are limited to a 1m high wall without PP. Sorry can't help with shutters costs.

Thanks for that, does the 1 metre include any metal railings or can you put them on top of your wall?

I don't think you will get away with a fence on a wall but you could ask your local PD.

you could use PC99 anti vandal paint for the top of the wall that will prevent them climbing over.
And use laminated glass for your windows or if you have double glazing you can change the glass unit for toughened glass

Thanks for that, I already have double glazing with toughened glass. Except then outer panel they put through (the inner one held) waiting for that to be replaced.

Been told by the nice police person that I can have whatever i like on top of the gates when i get em fitted as long as i have a little notice warning people of the presence of lets say razor wire and that they enter at their own risk!!

Mrs doesn't want window shutters so we're not gonna bother with them just gonna try improve the front garden security.

•If the fence, wall or gate, is next to a highway used for vehicles (a footpath is part of the highway) - over 1m height requires permission.
•Where it is not next to a highway, any fence gate or wall over 2m will require permission.
